One Small Step

Introducing a blog about news and resources for people who want to craft more sustainably

8/11/2023

The textile waste problem is overwhelming. To be quite honest, the more I learn about it, the more weighed down I become (as is the case with many climate change related topics).

But I have allowed myself to feel the feels for long enough. Now it's time for me to throw my energy towards solutions. We don't need to sit back and watch things unravel. We can choose one thing to do differently and it will matter. For me, that one thing - the first step - is this blog, which I hope will serve as a resource for other sewists and makers who are interested in being more sustainable with their craft. Just in the last 2 weeks, I have discovered so many positive things happening in the world of sustainability, especially related to textile waste. I couldn't believe I had never heard about these great programs, companies and government initiatives to tackle a problem that is so near and dear to my heart. Have I been living under a rock?! (probably) Those stories deserve to be amplified!

In this blog, I will be sharing resources to help you craft more sustainably. I will also share stories, as I stumble upon them, about exciting projects from around the world aimed at solving textile waste problems so you can grow along with me. Every time I read about something new, my energy levels go through the roof and I'm eager to be a part of it. I hope it affects you in the same way. Maybe together we can shake off our apathy and get to work, one step at a time.
